HCN Hydraulic Corner Notching Machine
The HCN hydraulic corner notching machine from EBR METAL cuts the corners out of sheet metal blanks before bending or welding. Two blades meet at the notch angle and remove the corner in one stroke. Many fabricators simply call it a hydraulic corner notcher. The blank lies on a T-slot table with stops for repeatable cuts.
Three models: HCN 4 and HCN 6 notch at a fixed 90°, for 4 mm and 6 mm mild steel. The HCN 9 is a variable-angle corner notching machine, set from 30° to 140°. On the HCN 9 the capacity depends on the angle: 6 mm mild steel and 3 mm stainless from 60° to 140°, 4 mm and 2.5 mm from 30° to 59°.

• Mild steel up to 6 mm • Stainless up to 3 mm • Fixed 90° or 30–140° • Max. notch size 250 × 250 mm

HCN Design
The HCN has a heavy, rigid welded steel frame, with the cutting head above a machined T-slot table. Stops on the table set the depth and angle of the cut.
- HCN 4 and HCN 6: the blades are fixed at 90°, so there is no angle to set. The HCN 4 runs up to 50 cuts per minute.
- HCN 9: the angle is adjusted on the table between 30° and 140°. Four hydraulic hold-down cylinders clamp the sheet before each cut, and the blade gap adjusts automatically to the sheet thickness.

Choosing the HCN Hydraulic Corner Notching Machine
Choose by the thickest sheet and the angles you need. For square boxes, trays, panels and duct parts, a fixed 90° HCN 4 or HCN 6 needs no angle setting. When the parts need other angles, the HCN 9 hydraulic corner notching machine covers 30° to 140° on one table.
The HCN is part of EBR METAL’s ironworker and punching machine range. For notching angle and flat bar on the same machine as punching and shearing, see the HSW hydraulic ironworker.
Typical work:
- electrical cabinets and enclosures;
- HVAC ductwork and fittings;
- commercial kitchen equipment;
- metal furniture and shelving;
- trays, boxes and panels in general sheet metal fabrication.

Frequently Asked Questions About HCN
What does a corner notching machine do?
As a corner notcher, the HCN removes a corner from a sheet metal blank in one stroke, so the sides can be bent up or welded without overlap. The HCN cuts at a fixed 90° (HCN 4, HCN 6) or at an angle from 30° to 140° (HCN 9).
Fixed angle or variable angle: which one?
Fixed 90° needs no angle setting and suits rectangular parts. The variable-angle HCN 9 is the choice for parts with other corner angles.
Can the HCN cut stainless steel?
Yes, with lower thickness: up to 2.5 mm on the HCN 4 and up to 3 mm on the HCN 6 and HCN 9 (60°–140°).
What is the maximum notch size?
The maximum notch size is 250 × 250 mm on the HCN 6, 200 × 200 mm on the HCN 9 and 197 × 197 mm on the HCN 4.
