1000 mm CNC-Controlled Programmable Backgauge
EHGM CNC guillotine shearing machine uses a CNC-controlled programmable motorized backgauge with 1000 mm travel and a positioning accuracy of ±0.1 mm, with the required cutting dimension programmed as part of the CNC cutting setup. The system also provides programmable backgauge retraction.
For parts that need to travel further into the machine than this 1000 mm travel allows, the lift-up function clears the backgauge out of the way so the cut can still be made.

CNC-Controlled Cutting Parameters
Sheet-metal shearing is not defined by thickness alone. Material properties, blade clearance and cutting geometry all shape the cutting process.
EHGM’s CNC system brings these variables into one workflow. The operator enters the material, thickness and cutting length; the control includes preset selections for commonly processed materials such as carbon steel, stainless steel and aluminium. From there, the CNC determines the cutting angle, blade clearance, cutting stroke and backgauge position from its predefined parameters.
The CNC applies these settings automatically.
CNC-Controlled Adjustable Rake Angle
Rake angle describes the inclination of the cutting blade along the cutting line.
With an inclined blade, the cut progresses along the sheet rather than engaging the complete cutting length at the same instant, reducing peak cutting load and affecting the resulting cut and sheet characteristics, including sheet deformation.
Because the ideal cutting angle depends on the material, thickness and cutting geometry, EHGM CNC hydraulic guillotine shear uses a CNC-adjustable rake angle rather than one fixed setting. The CNC system determines the rake angle from the entered cutting information, and the operator can adjust it manually if required.
CNC-Controlled Blade Gap Adjustment
Blade clearance, commonly referred to as blade gap, is another important parameter in sheet-metal shearing. The appropriate clearance depends on the sheet thickness and material, and influences how the material separates between the blades, affecting cutting force, burr formation and edge quality.
Because clearance needs to change with the material and thickness being cut, EHGM’s blade-gap adjustment is CNC controlled: the machine determines the setting from the entered material and thickness as part of its predefined cutting parameters. The operator can review and, if required, adjust the CNC-determined setting, which reduces reliance on manual selection and the risk of an incorrect setting.
Short-Cut Stroke Control
Full cutting stroke is not required for every part.
For shorter cutting widths, EHGM shortens the cutting stroke instead of completing the full available stroke, and working speed increases accordingly, so more short cuts are made in the same time.
Sheet Support and Cutting-Area Features
Sheet positioning, restraint and operator visibility are important parts of the shearing process.
EHGM combines hydraulic hold-downs with front support equipment and cutting-line references to support sheet positioning during the cutting operation.
The number of hold-down cylinders depends on the model; see the technical table. Hold-down contact surfaces include rubber protection to help protect sensitive sheet surfaces, and additional hold-downs can be supplied on request.
Cutting-area equipment includes front support arms, ball transfers on the table, cutting-line illumination, a shadow-wire reference and a laser cutting line.
The hold-downs clamp the sheet before the blades cut.
Multi-Edge Shear Blades
EHGM uses an upper blade with two cutting edges and a lower blade with four. When one cutting edge becomes worn, another available edge can be brought into service by repositioning the blade. The blades can also be reground for further use where technically appropriate.
Typical EHGM CNC Hydraulic Guillotine Shear Applications
EHGM is used across a range of industrial sheet-metal fabrication environments, including:
– sheet-metal processing centers;
– steel service centers;
– agricultural machinery manufacturers;
– trailer and semi-trailer manufacturers;
– steel-door manufacturers;
– stainless-steel tank manufacturers;
– steel furniture and steel-product manufacturers; and
– other industrial fabrication operations working with medium-to-heavy sheet.
Selecting the Right EHGM for Your Cutting Requirements
The appropriate EHGM CNC hydraulic guillotine shear model depends on more than nominal sheet thickness.
Start with the maximum required cutting length and then compare the required thickness against the catalogue capacity for the material-strength basis relevant to the application.
For model selection, provide EBR METAL with:
1. Material type
2. Material strength, where known
3. Maximum sheet thickness
4. Minimum sheet thickness, where relevant
5. Required cutting length
6. Typical cutting dimensions
7. Information about how frequently materials, thicknesses or cutting setups change
8. Any required optional equipment or sheet-support configuration
EBR METAL can then compare the cutting requirement with the model-specific EHGM technical data and available machine configuration.
For more consistent cutting requirements where NC control provides the required level of operation, see the EHGM-LT NC hydraulic guillotine shear range.

Frequently Asked Questions About EHGM
What does the EHGM CNC system control, and how does it adapt to changing materials and thicknesses?
Based on material type, sheet thickness and cutting length entered by the operator, the EHGM CNC system determines relevant settings from its predefined parameters, including cutting angle, blade clearance, cutting stroke and backgauge positioning. This allows several cutting parameters to be managed together when production requirements change.
What is adjustable rake angle in a hydraulic guillotine shear?
Rake angle is the inclination of the cutting blade along the cutting line. An inclined blade allows the cut to progress along the sheet instead of engaging the entire cutting length at once, reducing peak cutting load and affecting the resulting cut and sheet characteristics. Because the ideal angle depends on the material, thickness and cutting geometry, EHGM uses a CNC-adjustable rake angle rather than one fixed setting, with manual override available if required.
Why is blade-gap adjustment important in sheet-metal shearing?
Blade gap is the clearance between the cutting blades. The appropriate clearance depends on the material, thickness and cutting conditions, and affects how the sheet deforms and separates during the cut, including cutting force, burr formation and sheared-edge characteristics. EHGM determines blade-gap adjustment through the CNC system as part of the machine setup, and the operator can adjust it manually if required.
What is the EHGM backgauge travel, and how are parts longer than 1000 mm handled?
EHGM uses a 1,000 mm CNC-controlled programmable motorized backgauge with a positioning accuracy of ±0.1 mm. For cutting requirements where the sheet must travel further than the backgauge’s normal 1000 mm travel, EHGM’s lift-up function allows the backgauge to move clear so the required cut can still be made.
What is the difference between EHGM and EHGM-LT?
EHGM is the CNC-controlled EBR METAL hydraulic guillotine shear range with adjustable rake angle, CNC blade-gap adjustment and a 1,000 mm programmable motorized backgauge. EHGM-LT is the NC-controlled hydraulic range, with a fixed rake angle by model and a 750 mm NC-controlled motorized backgauge. EBR METAL generally starts with EHGM where CNC parameter flexibility is useful; EHGM-LT remains a practical alternative where cutting requirements are more consistent or budget is a significant factor.
Can EHGM cut stainless steel?
Yes. EHGM’s standard blades can process stainless steel. An optional stainless-steel cutting blade is also available for applications involving frequent or continuous stainless-steel cutting, where it offers greater durability and a longer service life. See Multi-Edge Shear Blades for the standard blade configuration.
How do I select the right EHGM model?
Start with the required cutting length, material and maximum sheet thickness; minimum sheet thickness may also be relevant. Compare those requirements with the model-specific EHGM technical table using the relevant material-strength basis. Information about typical cutting dimensions, material changes and required optional equipment also helps define the appropriate machine configuration. For final selection, provide EBR METAL with the complete cutting requirement rather than selecting a model from maximum thickness alone.
