GMRL-RF Guillotine Shear
The GMRL-RF is a direct-gear motorized guillotine shears built for thin-sheet cutting, with fast, controlled handling of the cut piece.
Its standard manual Send to Rear / Return to Sender system discharges cut pieces up to 400 mm long toward the front of the machine. The operator can then collect and inspect smaller pieces at the front, instead of walking behind the shear after every cut.
The GMRL-RF uses a lighter construction than the GMRH-RF and is intended for applications that don’t require the heavy-duty series’ higher cutting capacity. For customers working mainly with thinner sheet, it’s a more economical way to get the same Direct-Gear technology and RF handling principle, without investing in cutting capacity the application does not require.
Available in six models, the series covers cutting lengths from 1100 to 3020 mm.

Send to Rear & Return to Sender System
A movable guide plate below the cutting area is repositioned manually to select whether the cut piece discharges toward the front or the rear of the machine. This RF function is what separates the GMRL-RF from the standard GMRL series.
In the front-discharge position, cut pieces up to 400 mm long can be directed to the front of the shear. Pieces longer than 400 mm must go out the rear.
This matters most during repetitive cutting of smaller pieces: the operator collects the finished piece from the front, checks it, and keeps the line moving instead of stepping around to the back of the machine each time.
The standard RF system is manual and doesn’t require pneumatic operation.

- Cutting capacities are calculated for ST37 (S235JR) material with approximately 370–400 N/mm² tensile strength.
- Cutting suitability depends on material grade, tensile strength, thickness and required cutting length.
- Capacity for materials other than the reference material should be confirmed with EBR METAL.

Cut Length, Backgauge Position and Front Discharge
Enter a 300 mm cutting dimension into the NC backgauge, and it moves to 300 mm. The operator feeds the sheet to the backgauge, and the resulting piece is roughly 300 mm long, within the RF system’s 400 mm front-discharge range, so it can go out the front.
A 500 mm cutting dimension exceeds that range. The resulting piece has to be discharged to the rear.
For repetitive small-part production, this means the cutting dimension entered at the backgauge — not a separate control — is what decides the discharge direction.
Pneumatic Sheet Support for Thin Sheet
Thin material, particularly around 1 mm and below, can sag before it reaches the backgauge or while positioned against it. A pneumatic sheet support system is available as an option to reduce that sag, helping the sheet position consistently before the cut and supporting better cutting accuracy and repeatability.
The pneumatic support option works together with the Send to Rear / Return to Sender function.
The same thin-sheet support principle applies on GMRL, GMRH and GMRH-RF machines as well.
Direct-Gear Mechanical Construction
A welded steel structure carries the Direct-Gear mechanical drive. The cutting beam runs on Teflon slideways, blade-gap adjustment is accessed from the front of the machine, and a mechanical clamping system holds the sheet during the cut.
Blades are high-carbon/high-chrome: two usable cutting edges on the upper blade, four on the lower, so the blade can be repositioned as the active edge wears rather than replaced outright.

GMRL-RF or GMRH-RF?
Both machines provide the Send to Rear / Return to Sender function. What separates them is construction and cutting-capacity range.
GMRH-RF is the heavier-duty option for applications that need greater cutting capacity.
GMRL-RF is built for thinner-sheet work that doesn’t require that extra capacity, which keeps it the more economical option for those applications.
GMRL-RF and GMRH-RF share the same Direct-Gear technology and component quality; the difference is construction and cutting capacity, sized to match the application rather than any difference in build standard.
Base the selection on:
- material type and grade;
- tensile strength;
- required sheet thickness;
- cutting length;
- production volume;
- cut-piece handling requirements.
For a broader comparison of available cutting technologies and machine types, see our Sheet Metal Cutting Machines range.
Up to 35 Cutting Cycles per Minute
All six GMRL-RF models are rated at 35 strokes per minute. Actual output also depends on sheet feeding, cut dimensions and material handling.
For repetitive thin-sheet work, the 35-stroke-per-minute cycle rate allows the machine to support fast production, provided that the material feeding process can support this cycle rate.
Typical GMRL-RF Applications
- HVAC and ductwork production
- Electrical cabinet and enclosure manufacturing
- Elevator cabin manufacturing
- Light-gauge sheet-metal fabrication
- General sheet-metal workshops
- Repetitive small-part cutting
The RF system is most useful where smaller cut pieces need to be collected and checked often during production.
Configure the GMRL-RF for Your Production
Material grade, sheet thickness, cutting length, backgauge travel and how cut pieces need to be handled all factor into the right GMRL-RF configuration.
For thin material, particularly around 1 mm and below, pneumatic sheet support is worth considering wherever sagging could affect positioning against the backgauge.
EBR METAL can help determine whether the standard manual RF configuration covers your needs, or whether options such as pneumatic sheet support, extended backgauge travel or alternative controls fit the application better.
Send us your material, thickness and cutting-length requirements to configure the right GMRL-RF for your production.
2-Year Warranty and Technical Support
GMRL-RF machines come with a 2-year warranty.
Technical and after-sales support is available for machine operation, maintenance and spare-parts requirements.

Frequently Asked Questions – GMRL-RF Series
What is the GMRL-RF guillotine shear designed for?
The GMRL-RF is built primarily for thin-sheet cutting applications where the customer wants the Send to Rear / Return to Sender function without the heavier construction and higher cutting capacity of the GMRH-RF.
What does RF mean on the GMRL-RF?
RF refers to the Send to Rear / Return to Sender configuration. It lets you select whether the cut piece discharges toward the front or rear of the machine.
RF does not mean “reinforced.”
How does the manual Return to Sender system work?
A movable guide plate below the cutting area is positioned manually for the discharge direction you need. Cut pieces up to 400 mm long can go out the front; longer pieces are discharged to the rear.
Why would I choose front discharge?
Front discharge lets the operator collect smaller cut pieces without walking behind the machine after every cut. This saves time during repetitive production and allows finished pieces to be inspected more quickly.
What backgauge is standard on the GMRL-RF?
The standard machine has an NC controlled backgauge with 750 mm stroke. A 1000 mm NC controlled backgauge is available as an option.
What sheet thickness can the GMRL-RF cut?
Five models have a nominal capacity of 3 mm; the GMRL-RF 2603 is rated at 2.5 mm.
Actual suitability also depends on material grade, tensile strength and cutting length, so the application should not be selected on nominal thickness alone.
When is pneumatic sheet support recommended?
It’s particularly useful for thin sheet, especially around 1 mm and below. Supporting the material reduces sagging before the cut and can improve positioning against the backgauge.
What is the difference between GMRL-RF and GMRH-RF?
Both use the RF Send to Rear / Return to Sender principle. GMRH-RF has heavier construction and higher cutting capacity; GMRL-RF is built for thinner-sheet applications where that extra capacity isn’t needed.
For a customer mainly cutting thinner sheet, GMRL-RF is often the more economical choice.
Does the GMRL-RF use hydraulics for the cutting movement?
No. GMRL-RF belongs to EBR METAL’s Direct-Gear motorized guillotine shear family and doesn’t use a hydraulic cutting circuit.
What is the warranty period for the GMRL-RF?
The GMRL-RF is supplied with a 2-year warranty.
