Welded-Steel Construction with 2.0 mm Cutting Capacity

KMP uses welded/fabricated steel construction for the table and legs — a thicker steel-plate build rather than KMD’s cast-iron construction. KMP shares KMD’s 2.0 mm nominal mild/carbon-steel cutting capacity.

A More Economical Alternative to KMD

KMP was developed as a more economical manufacturing solution than the cast-iron KMD, while preserving the same nominal 2.0 mm cutting capacity. The welded/fabricated steel construction is the reason for this cost difference — not a difference in capacity or performance.

In practice, there is no major difference in usage or performance between KMP and KMD.

Manual Backgauge and Cutting Features

KMP carries the same core cutting features as the rest of the range: mechanical sheet clamping, a 0–600 mm manual back gauge, and a front set-square with millimetric ruler for angled and vertical cuts, all hand-lever operated. The full backgauge and short-strip cutting explanation is on the Hand-Lever Guillotine Shears page.

KMP or KMD? Construction and Economy Compared

KMP and KMD share the same 2.0 mm nominal cutting capacity. The choice between them is a construction and cost question:

– KMP uses welded/fabricated steel construction and offers the same 2.0 mm capacity as a more economical construction alternative.
– KMD uses traditional cast-iron construction and is the heavier, more expensive model in the pair.

KMP Applications

KMP suits workshops looking for the same 2.0 mm cutting capacity as KMD in a more economical, welded-steel construction, for general-purpose sheet metal cutting, workshop support work and simple site cutting.

Blade System, Serviceability and Warranty

KMP’s blades are single-edged and reground repeatedly rather than replaced at the first sign of wear. Clearance is restored afterward by adjusting the upper blade position, and replacement blades remain available to order. The warranty runs 2 years.

Frequently Asked Questions About KMP

Both share the same 2.0 mm nominal capacity. KMP is a fabricated steel manual guillotine shear, sometimes called a welded steel hand lever shear, offering a more economical alternative to the heavier, cast-iron KMD.

EBR METAL’s catalogue uses “Heavy Type” to distinguish KMP from the lighter KMH model, not to claim greater capacity or duty rating than KMD. KMP’s actual cutting capacity is identical to KMD’s.

KMP cuts up to 2.0 mm ST37/S235JR mild steel at approximately 370–400 N/mm² tensile strength, in both the 1050 mm and 1280 mm actual shearing-length models—the same nominal capacity as KMD.
