Direct-Gear Mechanical Drive
The cutting stroke on GMRH machines is produced mechanically through a Direct-Gear drive. No hydraulic circuit is used to generate the cut.
Motor power ranges from 7.5 to 11 kW across the range, sized according to the cutting capacity and working length of each model. The same Direct-Gear principle is used across EBR METAL’s GMRL, GMRH-RF and GMRL-RF ranges, while GMRH combines it with the heavier construction required for higher cutting loads

- Cutting capacities are calculated for ST37 (S235JR) material with approximately 370–400 N/mm² tensile strength.
- Actual cutting suitability also depends on material grade, tensile strength, sheet thickness and required cutting length. Capacity for other materials should be confirmed with EBR METAL.
GMRH 1605 is rated at 5 mm in the standard specification. A specially configured 6 mm version can be supplied on request with a revised power unit.
Heavy-Duty Construction for Demanding Production
The heavier welded construction and structural rigidity of the GMRH support stable cutting under higher loads and intensive production conditions.
This makes the machine well suited to manufacturers carrying out repetitive or serial cutting operations where higher capacity, machine stability and long service life are important.
- Heavy-duty welded steel frame construction
- Cutting beam running on durable teflon slideways
- Easy blade-gap adjustment from the front
- Mechanical sheet clamping system
- High-carbon / high-chrome cutting blades
Higher Cutting Capacity Without Moving to a Hydraulic Shear
Three of the shorter GMRH models are particularly useful for manufacturers that need higher cutting capacity without requiring a long machine:
- GMRH 1106 — 1100 mm cutting length, 6 mm nominal capacity
- GMRH 1406 — 1360 mm cutting length, 6 mm nominal capacity
- GMRH 1605 — 1560 mm cutting length, 5 mm nominal capacity
For these shorter cutting lengths, GMRH provides 5–6 mm cutting capacity without requiring the customer to move to a hydraulic guillotine shear simply to handle the material thickness.
The GMRH 1605 is rated at 5 mm in its standard configuration. Where 6 mm capacity is required at this cutting length, EBR METAL can provide a specially configured version with a revised power unit.
This gives customers working around 1100–1560 mm cutting lengths a practical and economical Direct-Gear alternative when higher cutting capacity is required.
750 mm NC Servo Backgauge
When the operator enters the required cutting dimension, for example 500 mm, the backgauge moves to that position. The sheet is then fed manually until it reaches the backgauge stops, and the cutting cycle produces the required piece dimension under normal operating conditions.
The standard backgauge has a 750 mm stroke and is driven by a servo motor. A 1000 mm NC backgauge is available as an option for longer cut dimensions.
Backgauge positioning is motorized and controlled through the NC system. Sheet feeding remains manual.
Blade System and Blade Gap Adjustment
Cutting Blades
GMRH machines use high-carbon/high-chrome cutting blades.
The upper blade has two usable cutting edges, while the lower blade has four. When one cutting edge becomes worn, the blade can be rotated to an unused edge instead of immediately requiring grinding or replacement.
Once the available cutting edges require servicing, the blade surfaces can be reground and reused. This allows the same blade set to remain in service for a long period before replacement is required.
Blade Gap Adjustment
When the operator changes sheet thickness, the blade gap is adjusted from two points located at the left and right front sides of the machine table.
Both sides are set according to the thickness of the material being cut. The procedure is manual and carried out from the front of the machine.
Mechanical Sheet Hold-Down
Before the cutting stroke begins, the mechanical hold-down mechanism presses the sheet against the table and prevents it from shifting during the cut.
Cutting force can otherwise move the material and affect the resulting cut dimension. By limiting this movement, the hold-down helps maintain consistent and accurate cutting results.
Optional Pneumatic Sheet Support
Thin sheet can sag between the cutting line and the backgauge while it is being positioned.
The optional pneumatic sheet support helps support the material during positioning, reducing sagging and allowing the sheet to sit more consistently against the backgauge before the cut.
This can improve positioning consistency and repeatability when processing thinner material.
The same sheet-support principle can also be applied to GMRL, GMRH-RF and GMRL-RF machines according to the material and application.
Choosing Between GMRH, GMRH-RF and GMRL
The correct Direct-Gear model depends on cutting capacity, working length and how the cut pieces need to be handled.
Choose GMRH when the application requires heavier construction, higher cutting capacity and repetitive industrial production.
Choose GMRH-RF when the same heavier machine platform is required together with the Send to Rear / Return to Sender system for front or rear cut-piece discharge.
Choose GMRL when production is mainly focused on thinner sheet and the lighter, more economical machine provides sufficient capacity.
On GMRH and GMRL, cut pieces discharge to the rear.
Cutting Cycle Rate
Cutting speed varies by model between 31 and 35 strokes per minute, as shown in the technical specifications table.
Actual output also depends on how fast the sheet is fed and positioned.
The 31–35 strokes/min range gives the GMRH a high cycle capability for repetitive sheet-cutting operations.

Frequently Asked Questions – GMRH Series
What sheet thickness can the GMRH cut?
Nominal cutting capacity reaches up to 6 mm, with the rated capacity varying by model.
The standard GMRH 1605 is rated at 5 mm, while a specially configured 6 mm version can be supplied on request with a revised power unit.
Actual suitability also depends on material grade, tensile strength and cutting length.
What is the maximum cutting length of the GMRH?
The GMRH range covers cutting lengths from 1100 mm up to 4200 mm across nine standard models.
Does the GMRH include an NC backgauge as standard?
Yes. The standard machine includes a 750 mm NC backgauge with servo motor drive.
What is the difference between GMRH and GMRH-RF?
GMRH-RF uses the same heavier machine platform but adds the Send to Rear / Return to Sender system, allowing the cut piece to be discharged toward the front or rear.
On the standard GMRH, cut pieces discharge to the rear.
What is the difference between GMRH and GMRL?
GMRH has heavier construction and higher cutting capacities.
GMRL is the lighter and more economical option when production is mainly focused on thinner sheet.
When is pneumatic sheet support useful?
Pneumatic sheet support is useful when thin material tends to sag while being positioned against the backgauge.
Supporting the sheet reduces sagging and helps achieve more consistent positioning before the cut.
Is GMRH a hydraulic guillotine shear?
No. The cutting stroke is produced by a Direct-Gear mechanical drive rather than a hydraulic cutting circuit.
How fast does the GMRH cut?
Depending on the model, the GMRH operates at 31 or 35 strokes per minute.
This figure represents the machine’s cutting-cycle capability. Actual production output also depends on sheet feeding and positioning speed.
How do the reversible cutting blades reduce maintenance?
The upper blade has two usable cutting edges and the lower blade has four.
When one edge wears, the blade can be rotated to a fresh edge instead of requiring immediate grinding or replacement. The blade surfaces can later be reground and reused.
What is the warranty period for the GMRH?
GMRH machines are supplied with a 2-year warranty.
