Lock Former Machine Shipment to Slovenia
For this project, EBR METAL prepared and tested a 9-station lock former machine for a buyer in Slovenia. The machine was configured as an HVAC duct lock former machine, covering Pittsburgh Lock, Drive Cleat, Power Flange and Round Seam profiles. This article covers the configuration, the pre-shipment test process and how the machine fits into HVAC duct production work.
Project Overview: Lock Former Machine Prepared for Slovenia
The lock former machine shipment to Slovenia was based on the LFM 12, a 9-station lock former machine. EBR METAL manufactures both 7-station and 9-station models. The 9-station configuration was selected for this project because the buyer needed several duct seam profiles formed on a single machine instead of separate units for each profile.
The machine was assembled, configured and tested at our production facility before export. Roller setup, profile selection and material capacity were confirmed against the buyer’s duct production requirements.

The pre-shipment test run was recorded before dispatch. The video shows the 9-station machine forming seam profiles on galvanized sheet during operation, including infeed, station-by-station forming and the finished profile.

Machine Configuration and Duct Seam Profiles
The Slovenia configuration forms four seam profiles used in HVAC duct assembly:
- Pittsburgh Lock – the standard longitudinal seam for rectangular duct sections
- Drive Cleat – transverse duct connections
- Power Flange – flanged duct ends for sectional joining
- Round Seam – circular duct seam forming
Each station carries hardened special alloy steel rollers. The sheet passes through the stations in sequence, and each roller pair bends the material one step further until the full profile is formed. Profile selection depends on the installed roller configuration, so the same machine body can be set up differently for other buyers.
Pre-Shipment Test Run and Quality Checks
Every EBR METAL machine goes through a structured pre-shipment process. For this HVAC duct lock former machine, the checks included:
- 24-hour electrical test – the machine remains powered for 24 hours to check motor, wiring and control system stability before packing.
- Maximum capacity test – the machine is run at its upper material limits to confirm forming performance at full thickness.
- Profile test run – sample galvanized sheet is fed through each configured profile and the formed seams are inspected.
After these checks, the Slovenia machine was approved for packing and export dispatch.
How the Lock Former Supports HVAC Duct Production
In duct workshops, seam forming is one of the most repetitive steps in production. Forming Pittsburgh Lock and cleat profiles manually is slow and depends heavily on operator skill.
A lock former machine moves this work to roll forming. The operator feeds cut sheet into the infeed side, and the stations form the seam profile in one pass. For a duct manufacturer, this means shorter seam preparation time per duct section and repeatable seam dimensions across production batches, which helps duct sections fit together more consistently during installation.
The 9-station Slovenia setup lets one machine handle longitudinal seams, transverse connections and round duct seams without changing equipment between profile types.

Galvanized and Stainless Steel Processing Capacity
The exported machine processes galvanized sheet metal from 0.5 mm to 1.2 mm, which covers the common thickness range in HVAC duct fabrication.
For stainless steel, capacity is lower — typically around 0.3 mm to 0.7 mm, depending on the material grade and the selected forming profile. Stainless steel work hardens during forming, so thickness limits are tighter than for galvanized sheet. Buyers planning regular stainless steel production should confirm their material specification with our engineering team before ordering.
Mobile Chassis and Workshop Use
LFM 10 and LFM 12 models include a mobile chassis with wheels as standard. The Slovenia machine was shipped on this chassis, so it can be positioned next to the cutting or notching station and moved when the workshop layout changes.
This setup suits small and medium duct workshops where floor space is shared between forming, assembly and storage areas, and where a fixed foundation installation is not wanted.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can this lock former machine process galvanized and stainless steel sheets?
Yes. The machine processes galvanized sheet metal in the 0.5–1.2 mm range. Stainless steel capacity is lower, typically around 0.3–0.7 mm, depending on material properties and the selected forming profile.
Which duct seam profiles can this lock former machine form?
The Slovenia configuration forms Pittsburgh Lock, Drive Cleat, Power Flange and Round Seam profiles. Available profiles depend on the installed roller configuration, and other setups can be arranged per order.
Does EBR METAL test lock former machines before shipment?
Yes. Every machine is kept under electrical test for 24 hours, and maximum capacity tests are performed before shipment. The Slovenia machine’s test run, including profile forming in operation, was recorded and is available as a video.
